Stephen Williams on "Finding Karla"

Magazine cover featuring Stephen Williams

For those who are unaware of who Stephen Williams is, or why anyone should care what he thinks about Finding Karla, he authored two books on the crimes of Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka. His first book, Invisible Darkness, is considered to be the most accurate account of the husband and wife's rape and murder spree. In fact, it was argued (in court) that Williams' description of the crimes were so accurate that he was accused of having viewed the banned videotapes that Bernardo had made of the attacks on Kristen French and Leslie Mahaffy

Williams follow-up book was more about Karla Homolka herself than it was about the crimes that she admitted to. Homolka exchanged a series of letters with Williams during her incarceration, which became the foundation for Karla: A Pact with the Devil. In those letters, she discussed everything from her frustrations with the justice system to her daily beauty routine.

If I were to name any one person as the foremost authority on this case, it would be Stephen Williams. This is what he had to say about Paula Todd's $3 e-book, Finding Karla:

FINDING KARLA: FRAUD, FICTION OR BOTH? (Link will open in a new window)

  1. I think he's pissed because he didn't get to Karla first. Sour grapes in my opinion. He think he's made enough money from these innocent girls deaths.

    1. Williams and others have had the means to contact Homolka in Guadaloupe for years; the difference is that, until Paula Todd, nobody thought the trip out into the jungle would be worthwhile. Homolka revealed nothing new in her interview with Todd, besides confirming the long-standing rumour that Thierry is, in fact, Sylvie Bordelais brother.

The fact that Todd and Company are selling a "scoop" that isn't theirs to sell is what has perturbed Mr. Williams, and countless others who have been following the story online for years.

  2. Isn't hers to sell? I think enough people has made enough money from these crimes. And if 'they' didn't want PT to use their 'priceless' research, then they should not of plastered it all over the'net. IMO, no one found Karla... everyone has always known where she was. Do any google search and her address, number and email pops up.

I think PT's book was useful. It gave us a insight on how Karla is living. Like I said before... sour grapes. So everyone just get over it.

    1. What is available online (mainly through WatchingKarlaHomolka) is there so that people interested in the case can inform themselves with the most accurate and up to date data. It is there for the taking, and is provided completely free of charge. I feel that Paula Todd's repackaging of old information in the form of a "hot scoop" was at best misleading, and at worst (as Williams has suggested) fraudulent.

I do not dispute her claim to the interview, although what was actually said contributed very little to the ongoing discussion. What gets my goat is the fact that Todd has been trumpeting that she "found" Karla when that is simply not true -- she was merely the first journalist willing to travel so far simply to lay eyes on her.

My personal impression is that the interview itself lacked in any real substance, so she played up the needle in a haystack scenario.

  3. I'm guessing cause Jen is just a cleaner/cashier, she thought this to be her get rich scheme. Guess I'd be pissed too.

    1. Irrelevant personal attacks - very classy! Who's sucking on sour grapes now?

  4. No sucking here! I have no intention of making money off of the French and Mahaffy families loss. I just wish other people wouldn't stoop so low either. That's not CLASSY!

  5. And it was very relevant... it shows her true intention was to make money.

    1. And what of Paula Todd, then? She is profiting from her e-book about Homolka, and you said that it was "useful" and provided "insight."

I understand the point you are trying to make, but I don't understand the logic in attacking one investigator while lauding another covering the very same case.

  6. Please! J is NOT an investigator... she's just someone who spends too much time on the internet. I don't like the fact that PT is making money either but she did provide solid evidence on where Karla is and about her life that people should be aware of. So I guess her book was a good thing. Hopefully she'll donate a portion to a charity that supports Karla's victims.

    1. I respectfully agree to disagree with you on the topic of what constitutes an "investigator."

  7. My question is, why aren't the media/ reporters in Guadeloupe hounding her? Even though she's in a remote rural location, it can't be that hard to find - it's a small island. If I were a reporter anywhere near the island I'd stake her out & shoot behind the bushes like a paparazzi getting dozens of clear shots of her & her children & sell them to news outlets. The public has a right to know where this monster & her offspring are at all times.

    1. Good question, Anon. I have also been watching to see if any media local to that area pick up on the story. There have been a few reports, but nothing really substantial.

Karla made a wise choice in marrying Thierry; his sister, Sylvie, has been her lawyer for some time. Perhaps local media outlets have been warned to leave Karla be... or else?!

  8. Sylvie Bordelais is a welfare attorney & ambulance chaser. The Bordelais family are not very bright, taking in a convicted serial child rapist & murderer.
